Hi Richard. Thanks, as always, for the alert. Yes indeed; nice to find fresh material in YouTube. This performance comes from the same 1960 Ed Sullivan special in which Peggy also sang the version of "Fly Me to the Moon" that first made mainstream audiences pay attention to that song. (Below you'll find a still from that performance.) Given the Sullivan pedigree, you are right that this clip might be deleted from YouTube soon. It will depend, of course, on whether the Sullivan people learn about it. Fortunately, the poster of the clip is smart about such perils, giving no identification as to the clip's origin in a show. I don't know if I am being smart, on the other hand, by identifiying the song here! ... Ivan

Another new performance on YouTube! Peggy singing "Yes, Indeed" in a hospital back in 1960. Never seen this before and it's really great. I love it when Peggy sings "Yes, Indeed". She is very charming in this video. I really love this clip, although the quality is poor. Does anybody know where this comes from? Check it out before it's gone!
Richard's post about the new "I've Never Left Your Arms" YouTube clip brought me back to this thread. Did you receive that Dinah Shore 45? If you did, how is her version? Does she sing it slowly, too? Are there any exotic elements in the musical accompaniment and arrangement?

I was in Wimbledon yesterday to preview the Midland Continental Depot Museum Featuring Peggy Lee for the first time in many months and I was totally impressed by the entire project. The Peggy Lee Room in the living room of the upstairs apartment is full of great information about Norma Egstrom's youth and her start in music and theater and about Peggy Lee's career. The displays are top notch and the building itself is a gem.

The information about the Midland Continental Railroad is also a fascinating story in itself. Some of the most touching parts of the display are quotes from Peggy Lee herself about her memories of that time, which are put into context in this unique and authentic setting.

It truly is worth a visit!

Here is an excerpt from the press release for the Fargo show on Peggy Lee's 92nd birthday with all ticketing information.

Fargo’s recently-renovated The Stage at Island Park will host a special concert at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26th, featuring accomplished jazz trio performing the legendary music of North Dakota native Peggy Lee on legendary star’s birthday.

Critically-acclaimed vocalist Stacy Sullivan is joined by master jazz pianist Jon Weber and accomplished bassist Steve Doyle in “A Tribute To Miss Peggy Lee,” a show that has filled venues from coast to coast and garnered impressive critical reviews as an interpretive exploration of Lee, including the extraordinary music and the personal struggles of a woman whose voice captivated millions—all part of an elegant and loving homage highlighting the classic songs, intricate rhythms, and exquisite arrangements that defined Lee’s career.

Tickets for the May 26th Fargo performance of “A Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee” are $20 for reserved seating and are available at The Stage at Island Park box office at 333 4th Street South in Fargo, or by calling the box office at 701-235-6778. Tickets at the door will be $25.

We are so excited about the events to come in North Dakota!

Here is a bit more about Stacy Sullivan's Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee in Jamestown:

The show will be at 7:30 PM on May 25 at Reiland Fine Arts Center on the Jamestown College campus.

Tickets are on sale in Jamestown and Valley City. Ticket prices are $15 regular adult admission; $12 seniors (65+); $10 youth and college; $20 at the door.

In Jamestown, they can be bought at Hugos, Cork & Barrel and Globe Travel (Jackie Tarpinian, who owns Globe Travel is the niece of the man who first sponsored Norma Egstrom to sing for KOVC Radio. He was the manager of the Valley City Rudolph Hotel at the time).

In Valley City, tickets are available at the Barnes County Museum (thanks to Wes Anderson!) and Unique Antiques (in the building where Norma sang with a college band when still in high school in Wimbledon).

A very limited number of VIP tickets are still available at $50 each and include front-of-house seating and VIP reception following the performance. Call me at 701.952.8253 to reserve any tickets. Since the college box office is closed for the season, I will handle all out-of-town ticket requests.

In the lobby, there will be a display of Peggy Lee albums, music, and memorabilia, including an original dress of Peggy Lee's, a dress suit and an original painting by Peggy Lee. Most of the items are from my collection, but the clothing items are on loan from Dave Gladspell of Bismarck whose mother knew the singer and received the clothing as gifts many years ago.

I will post details about the Fargo show too.

Ivan spotted the one error I also found re "Page" Cavanaugh... should be "Dave"! Otherwise full size photos of both albums' original sleeves, original liner-notes as well as some new ones. All dates, locations and musicians listed for each track too. I always wanted a CD with these two PL-QJ albums so very happy for this addition to my collection.

What a brilliant site this is to pay tribute to the fabulous Peggy Lee!

I just wanted to let you know that the BBC Big Band is doing a Peggy Lee songbook concert featuring Georgina Jackson at Birmingham Town Hall (England!) on the 25th May. This concert is being recorded for broadcast sometime in the future (not sure when).

I hope some of you can either attend the concert or maybe hear the broadcast.
Lots of love,

Re: The Peggy Lee Discography: Updates

A brand new page, dedicated to Peggy's work on Jimmy Durante's radio show:

Other than the radio shows that she herself hosted, this is Peggy's most important body of radio work, in my opinion. Granted that she sang more numbers for Bing Crosby's radio show, in that program she was just the show's singer. And she was not part of Bing's show on a permanent, weekly basis, anyway. With Jimmy, she was the show's singer and also an integral member of the cast (regularly participating in the comedy routines) for one full solid season.

What else? ... Oh yes, I have reeeeally gone overboard. This page is dense with text and photos. Two reasons:

1. Since Peggy participated in the banter each week, I decided to quote her parts in the scripts of every episode.

2. Originally, this page was expected to contain only text, no photos at all ... Then I said to myself, well, maybe I'll include just 1 photo at the top of the page and one at the end. Before I knew it, I was searching for and adding pictures for every broadcast. So much for sobriety and self-control! But dealing with photos is enjoyable.

Anyway, I'm happy that I have finally begun working on Peggy's radio and TV work, after years of planning to do so. (Instead, there have been detours to other material that I had not originally envisioned to cover, such as the bunch of album photo pages that took about a year to put together.)

Hi Everyone,

I know that Wes has posted about this, but I wanted to also add my two-cents. I am really excited about the opening of the Peggy Lee Exhibit at the Midland Continental Depot Museum. My grandmother didn’t say much about what she wanted us to do with her memorabilia, but one thing she did say is that she would like to “do something for North Dakota.” I think she would be thrilled with how this exhibit turned out. You can see some photos of it on our Facebook page: [www.facebook.com]

The museum is located in an old train depot in the town of Wimbledon. The depot was home to my grandmother and her family from 1934 through 1937 (her father was the railroad station agent). We opened up our archives to the museum folks, and their exhibit designer spent days here scanning my grandmother’s photos, memorabilia and personal papers. I am so excited that my family and I will no longer be the only ones enjoying these special items. The grand opening of the museum will take place on Saturday, May 26th, what would have been my grandmother’s 92nd birthday.

Completing the birthday weekend will be two Peggy Lee tribute concerts performed by the wonderful Stacy Sullivan (accompanied by the accomplished duo of Jon Weber and Steve Doyle). Stacy, Jon and Steve are going to deliver to the people of North Dakota a gift that my grandmother left behind – a song that she wrote just for them entitled “The Folks Back Home” (music by Paul Horner). I haven’t heard this song performed live since my grandmother and Paul wrote it back in 1983. My understanding is that Stacy is in the process of recording a CD of her Peggy Lee tribute, so you will soon be able to hear this "new" song for yourselves.

The tribute concert information is as follows:
Friday, May 25th Reiland Theater at Jamestown College
Saturday, May 26th The Stage at Island Park in Fargo
For information on tickets and show times, please contact Kate Stevenson at 701-952-8253.

This will be my first trip to North Dakota, and I can’t wait to see the places I have heard about for so long. My brothers and their families will also be making the trip with me. If you happen to live in the area, I hope you’ll join us for this special weekend.

If you’re interested in reading more about the museum opening and concerts, please check out this article:

And, if you would like to read a blog about the Peggy Lee Exhibit, written by the researcher/designer, Megan Whitaker, scroll down to her section here (I got to know the lovely Megan very well since she was at my home scanning for days on end):

In other news, the Peggy Lee/Reese Witherspoon movie project continues to move ahead, though not as quickly as one might hope. I am learning that this is the norm in Hollywood, so I am trying to be patient as the script is written (and re-written) and budgets are prepared.

Another exciting thing that we are working on is the launch of an online Peggy Lee Store that will feature merchandise and music. I will keep you posted! We’re always on the mission of getting more music released. It seems like a simple enough thing to do, but let me tell you, this music business is fairly maddening. Again, I am learning to push ahead, but also be patient.

Some of you have kindly asked about my mother, Nicki. She is hanging in there, but it’s been a tough road for her health-wise these past few years. She goes in-and-out of checking email and Facebook (by her own admission, she seems to be technologically challenged). At any rate, whenever anyone asks about her, I always let her know. Thanks to those of you who have inquired.

Sending my very best to you all!
I will look at your page with photos and see what I can do with the photos. Any problems with format, colours and other things are no problems for me. Also I have the most of these records in original and very good quality. The worst thing is to get time to do it as I'm working on many webpages and connections just now. Also I recommend you to add up with Facebook too. Many Peggy Lee things happen there too and most members here are also there.
Very welcome Iván!

Welcome to the board, Edgar. The title of the collection is Softly - With Feeling. Privately printed in 1953, it is a small publication (approximately 6" by 10"; 39 pages). I don't imagine that too many copies were printed.

Copies are probably very hard to find. One came up for auction at eBay about five years ago; its starting bidding price was $105....

Peggy also had a handful of her poems published in a newspaper. One of them was indeed set to music after Peggy had passed away, and recorded by a contemporary singer, Tish Oney, in her tribute CD Dear Peg. The title of the poem and song is "Burn It Slow."

Hi Folks,

It's been a while since I've posted anything on here but I do have some very exciting news regarding the Midland Continental Railroad Interpretive Center at Wimbledon, North Dakota... former home of Miss Peggy Lee from 1934-1937. I was just up there yesterday as a part of the project committee to meet with the exhibit creators, Sea Reach LTD and rep from the DOT for the final walk through inspection. All I can say is "WOW!" It is so much more than I could have possibly expected or hoped for when we started on this road in 2005. There are so many layers upon layers of history and rich stories interwoven in such a joyful exhibition that is a fitting tribute to the history of the MCRR, an idea far ahead of its time, and truly a love letter to Peggy Lee's early beginnings and career from the people who knew her as Norma Egstrom.

I don't know how to post photos to here but I have put some on the Facebook page for the Barnes County Historical Society here in Valley City if you want a sneak peek before the grand opening and dedication May 26th. [www.facebook.com]

We must thank Holly and family for their part in helping tell the story of Miss Peggy Lee and devoted fan Richard Morrision who has lent his time, talents and collection for a significant part of the exhibit as well. It is a long way to come to Wimbledon, North Dakota but, as you must journey to find the river's source so must you come see where the story all begins, here in this little building. I cordially invite you to come visit North Dakota and see this exhibit for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Sincerely,

It's a sweet song. The lyrics are just okay, but Peggy's vocal is very pleasant, and I would certainly like to see it commercially released some day. Incidentally, this number was co-written by the producer of that TV show.

About the song not being in the discography: that's true. It is part of the discographical pages that will be dedicated to TV and movie soundtracks, and which I have not put together yet. :-)

Peg would have to have been one of the first to hear it, as she performed it in mid-1987 (when reviewers referred to it as a new song written specifically for her) well before Shirley Horn's debut recording of the song was released in January of 1992. I don't think it was actually written for her — Artie has said that he conceived it from an older man's perspective — but she was obviously one of the first artists, if not the first, to whom he presented it. Alas, the song did not fit the themes of her later albums (blues, Peggy Lee songs, Harold Arlen songs), and so she never recorded it.
