I was rather wary when I saw the title and blurb for this prog but once it was under way I began to relax when I realized that I seemed to be in good hands.

Apart from our interest in the performers we had a fine bit of social history going as we looked at the old clips which set the scene for life on the road for musicians and singers and the often gruelling rigours they faced.

The prog moved rather nicely through the changes brought about during and after World War 2, the Civil Rights struggles and the emergence of the female singer in her own right. Of course we got to know about their often turbulent backgrounds and how that may or may not have affected their lives.

There were some good contributions from other singers, musicians and contributors (I particularly liked those from Gary Giddins) as well as the video clips, some well-known some not so.

Of course we on this site had our own special link to Peggy via the attractively low-key and thoughtful memories from Holly.

I don't know how widely this prog could be seen world-wide for fans. Anyway, kudos for Mr. Producer (Chris Rodley) and the others connected to it.

Thanks so much for mentioning the programme, Gareth! I was just going to post something about it myself. Because I haven't seen the finished product, I am a bit hesitant to promote it. I never know which angle people will take when looking at my grandmother's life (and when I see the words "pain" and "diva" in the title, I get a little nervous). However, I can tell you that the film's producer came to the interview with very thoughtful and intriguing questions. He is clearly a fan of her music and very knowledgeable about her career, so I am looking forward to seeing the end product. Other contributors to the programme are Annie Ross, Lisa Stansfield, Melody Gardot, Diana Krall, Madeleine Peroux, Claire Martin, Barb Jungr, Carleen Anderson, Tina May, Gregory Porter, Bucky Pizzarelli, Bob Dorough, Gary Giddins, Dave Gelly, Alvin Hall, Loren Schoenberg, George Wein and Michael Bourne.

The BBC has a webpage about the show, which includes some short clips. Unfortunately, I am unable to watch any of the clips over here in the US, but maybe those of you over in the UK will get a sneak peak:

Does anyone know the source of a version of 'I Get a Kick Out of You' that is not the Capitol Transcriptions recording or World Program Service recording? The only other extant version I know of is from a Chesterfield Supper Club broadcast of 1949. The mystery recording is of duration 2:30. It has a small group accompaniment and the lyrics are true to Cole Porter's in that Peggy does not want to sniff cocaine. It is probably from the late 1940s and possibly recorded at Capitol. She was singing the song in her live performances in 1949.

In the Capitol Transcriptions recording she doesn't want to take a trip on a train, and in the World version she doesn't want to sniff perfume from Spain. Strange lyric changes, but that's another subject. The Supper Club version (duration 2:01) has orchestral accompaniment and she doesn't want to sniff cocaine.

The section in which she sings "From This Moment On" has been regularly available there, but the spoken intro and chatter at the end hasn't. "Love, You Didn't Do Right by Mr" might have been in YouTube before, but if so, that must have been years ago.
When I said that the clip shows Peggy's full appearance in the show, I lied. She comes back for the finale, to sing a chorus or two (so do the episode's other guests).

Richard, do not trouble yourself sending him a message about me -- unless you have already done so (in which case, that's perfectly fine, and thanks again).
I just wanted to know that Jarl was fine, since it's been such a long time without any presence from him. If he's very active in Facebook, that would explain why we don't hear much from him.
The Facebook page for which Ron provided a link says
Letting you know that I have a black and white copy of 'I'm Gonna Go Fishin' with Anatomy of a Murder movie promotional poster on cover. If you still need it I can send it to you. I don't need to keep it since it has no pix of Peggy.

The Peggy Lee discography now includes images of Peggy Lee sheet music. I incorporated all the images (about 125) to one of the song indexes:

I imagine that there are still a few more qualifying pieces of sheet music that I haven't seen yet. In fact, I'm currently looking for an image of this one:

I'm Gonna Go Fishin' (front cover has Anatomy of Murder poster ad)

Next: I'm fully moving on to some technical matters that need to be fixed in the discography. The photo pages are so filled with images that they take up too much time to download, and many impatient viewers probably give up. I'll be working on reducing the size and footprint of all the images, so that the pages can download more quickly. And I might also change the way the written text looks; instead of running from one margin of the page to the other, it will cut in the middle of the page.

After those technical matters have been completed, I'll be entering radio performances (Bing Crosby Show, etc.) as well as TV and concert ones.

As usual, all of this is just to keep fellow fans informed of the discography's progress; thanks for reading!
