We received the following regarding upcoming tributes to Peggy:

There are 2 programmes being transmitted in the coming weeks that may be of interest to the users of your website. These feature the BBC Big Band in concert with singer Georgina Jackson - details below:

Big Band Special - TX 20.03 - 20.30 hrs. (BST) Sunday July 29 2012

Clare Teal presents the first part of Fever - A Tribute to Peggy Lee. Featuring some of her greatest hits performed in concert at the Town Hall Birmingham by singer Georgina Jackson and the BBC Big Band conducted by Jay Craig.

Featured titles include Why Don't You do Right, I Love Being Here with You, Linger in My Arms a Little Longer Baby and Alright, OK, You Win.

Born Norma Dolores Egstrom in North Dakota, big bands were a constant feature throughout Peggy Lee's long and successful career. From her first break with bandleader Benny Goodman in 1941 she would go on to work with arrangers including Billy May, Nelson Riddle, Shorty Rogers and Quincy Jones. For this exploration of the swinging side to Peggy Lee's music, the BBC Big Band are joined by one of the UK's finest jazz singers of today, Georgina Jackson.

Big Band Special - TX 20.03 - 20.30 hrs. (BST) Sunday August 05 2012

Clare Teal presents the second part of Fever - A Tribute to Peggy Lee. Featuring some of her greatest hits performed in concert at the Town Hall Birmingham by singer Georgina Jackson and the BBC Big Band conducted by Jay Craig.

Featured titles include I'm Gonna Go Fishin' (co-composed by Peggy Lee and Duke Ellington), That's My Style, Razor (Love Me As I Am) and Pass Me By.

Both programmes will be available to listen for 7 days after each broadcast via [www.bbc.co.uk]

Thanks for letting us know about these two programmes, David. I've just finished listening to the second half this evening. Both were very enjoyable, and the BBC Big Band did a really excellent job in arranging each song as it had been recorded by Peggy, originally. Georgina Jackson is no Peggy, in fact she sounds to me a little like the late Marion Montgommery ("discovered" by Peggy, I believe, back in the 60's?), but she presented each song well, and in a similar spirit to the way Peggy had sung them.

It's good to hear such tributes to Peggy, and to hear the very high esteem that Peggy is held in jazz and popular circles. What also was made clear by Clare Teal, in her presentation, was how very contemporary Peggy's wealth of recordings still are today.

Well worth listening to on the BBC iPlayer!

Happy listening!

Gareth.

I have just listened to the BBC Radio 2 Big Band Peggy Lee tribute. I must congratulate the BBC on this programme. The big band produced a great sound and singer Georgina Jackson's delivery was superb. A great programme and wonderful to hear such quality.
