So I've recently started to greatly enjoy Peggy Lee's music, and my absolute favorite song she sang is "Why Don't You Do Right?". I'm wondering if any of you out there have found any hard to find recordings that I haven't of the song. I've heard around 11 different versions sung by her but just hoping there's more. Thanks in advance!

I'll go ahead and list the versions I've heard down here, putting approximate dates for clarity

Obviously, more details would be needed if we are going to pinpoint the listed versions. If there are any specific questions, I'll be glad to provide additional detail. (The Swing Into Spring version is the one dated April 10, 1959 above.)

I would say, though, that you already own all the main versions, with one exception: the last performance listed above.

Thanks, I appreciate it, I just love this song so much; I listen to a lot of her other songs but this is my favorite. No one could ever sing it quite like she did. I don't mind if it's just a fragment of the song, for instance I found the Sid Caesar show recording version today through this forum actually and it just made my day! I wouldn't be trying to track them down so hard if it weren't for the fact that she sings it different every recording and they're all great in their own ways. If you're interested I can post where exactly I found them all. I feel like the radio broadcasts would be the hardest to track down.

Does anyone know which was the recording used on this and other compilations around that time? (It was the LP from which I first got to love PL's singing.)

It seems to be a studio recording but I'd have guessed it was later than the 1940s.

Paul, that's #17 in the list that I put together (above).

By the way, #17 is also the version of the song that was sampled on the worldwide dance club hit "Why Don't You", released about seven years ago [ [www.youtube.com] ].
