Your favorite ballads?

There has been talk in the past about favorite songs by Peggy, but let's be more specific, and talk about her ballads only: which are your favorites? And yes, you must try to limit yourself to three or less!

Ivan, you're mean! Only three favorite ballads is almost impossible, but I'll give it a try, in random order:

The Folks Who Live on the Hill
Rodgers & Hart medley
Oh! You Crazy Moon (this one has been one of my favorites from the first time I heard it)

But there are so much more. I'm not sure if it counts, but lately I'm very hooked on Send in the Clowns (YouTube).

It's nice to have such topics coming back to this board.

My three favorites ballads would be:

Oh! You Crazy Moon

In The Days Of Our Love

I'll Only Miss Him When I Think Of Him

It's very frustrating since there are so many more.

Regards to you all,

Yvan.

Mine are:

Days of Wine and Roses

It Takes Too Long to Learn to Live Alone

No Fool Like an Old Fool

I could name 20 others.

Oh boy... just three?

Well, I have to entirely agree with everone so far... so I'd better choose some other favourites!

How about:

I Can Hear The Music

Whistle For Happiness

Touch The Earth

Trouble with Peggy's albums is that most of them are masterpieces, and each song is perfection in its own way. That's why she stands out from all the rest... right?

Best wishes to all,

Gareth.

I've got 4 and if ya don't like it then ban me from the site!

1. I'm A Fool To Want You

2. I Get Along Without You Very Well

3. Here's That Rainy Day

4. The Tavern

And I just realized that 3 outta the 4 have a Sinatra connection... hmmmmm.

Ooh, I love "Best Of..." lists! I'll limit myself to three, but I'm not sure I can rank them...

The Folks Who Live on the Hill

Farewell to Arms (from Rare Gems and Hidden Treasures)

My Old Flame

Cheers!

With David's help, I'm glad to part of this site again!

Everyone has mentioned so many of my favorites so I'll try to add some different ones:

He's My Guy

Just For A Thrill

I've Never Left Your Arms (on "live/non-studio"winking smiley recording.

So many more but that's all (for now).

Regards,

I can think of three just from "Guitars ala Lee"... Goodbye My Love, Strangers In The Night and An Empty Glass, but I could go on and on!

Best wishes,

Tough to name just three. Number one has to be "The Folks Who Live On the Hill", followed closely by "Reflections" (The Right to Love). To round things off, I love the tempo and delivery of "Our Love Is Here to Stay."

I agree... it's tough to keep the slow count at three ;-)

Mine (today) are:

1. Deep Purple

2. As Time Goes By

3. I Can Hear the Music

If it's any consolation, I was mean to myself too, because I find it hard to keep it to just three, too. (Already mentioned were some of my favorites, like the 2nd versions of "Just for a Thrill" and "Oh You Crazy Moon"... a great choice is "Love Is Here to Stay;" Peggy's version hasn't received the praise that it deserves, and ditto for the magnificent "No Fool like an Old Fool"... and all the others.)

Me and My Shadow

Something Strange

Just an Old Love of Mine

This is really very difficult - PL was such a bloody good ballad singer but if I was on a desert island and only had three PL ballads to listen to then:

Folks Who Live On the Hill

I'll Be Seeing You

Shangri La

1. I Had a Love Once

2. Get Out of Town

3. There'll Be Another Spring

Mine are:

No Fool Like an Old Fool (her voice crack on the phrase "no love like a true love" is perfection)

I'm Glad There Is You (my main choice from the Decca years)

They Say (a tribute to her creative expression in the variety of ways she intones the title words)

I have about a thousand other favorites like "Clouds" and "Say It" but I'll refrain for now.

George K.

I always liked "The Second Time Around", "Just for a Thrill" and "The Folks Who Live on the Hill".

Like most, I pretty much like them all.

Don't Smoke In Bed (1969)
He's My Guy
